The licence the airline path asks for

DGCA-aligned theory in Calicut, then 200+ hours at partner schools with multi-engine and instrument work. Airline preparation when vacancies open — a seat is not promised.

200+ Flight hours, DGCA commercial minimum

Four stages to the commercial licence

Most cadets start papers in Calicut, fly through the partner network, then sit airline prep when a hiring window opens. Join at the stage you are already on.

01

Ground

DGCA papers in Calicut — or arrive with them already cleared. See DGCA Ground School.

02

Fly

Hours in India, South Africa, the USA or New Zealand, with a Flight Training Coordinator on the file.

03

Licence

Complete commercial requirements. The programme emphasises multi-engine endorsement and Instrument Rating.

04

Airline window

ADAPT, psychometric tests, group discussion and interviews. A CPL is not a job offer. Type rating comes later if the airline needs it.

What commercial training actually covers

More than hours in a logbook. Theory, ratings and conversion paperwork stay on the same file so you are ready for the next hiring window — without a placement promise.

Commercial theory

Systems, performance and decision-making beyond PPL, aligned to the DGCA commercial sitting.

Navigation and instruments

IFR depth and navigation work commercial operations expect before you sit the airline papers.

Multi-engine and IR

Hands-on multi-engine endorsement and Instrument Rating so you are not limited to single-engine commercial flying.

200+ hours and conversion

Build toward the DGCA commercial hour minimum. India-trained and overseas CPL holders get conversion coordination where the licence needs it.

Hours at partner schools — not an Aerowis airline

Flying is a standalone service. A coordinator stays on your file. We do not name partner schools here, and we do not publish a fee on the page.

India

Ground school and counselling at Hi-Lite Business Park, Calicut. Indian licence path for cadets who train at home.

South Africa

Partner flying hours, then Indian conversion paperwork when the licence needs it.

United States

Overseas hours with Aerowis coordination — not a visa programme advertised on this page.

New Zealand

A fourth flying-country option on the published partner path. Ask counselling which file fits your timeline.

Who this path is for

For cadets aiming at airline decks, and for parents who want the hour count and the limits in the same conversation.

Starting from Class 12

Physics, Mathematics and English. Age 17 or above. Begin with structured DGCA ground training, then flying.

PPL already in hand

Step from private flying into commercial hours and the ratings the airline path expects.

Papers already cleared

Skip straight to partner flight training. Holders of an overseas CPL come in for conversion, then airline prep if they want the next step.

Calicut on the file, then the line

Three frames from this academy. No stock cockpit wall.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a Commercial Pilot License take?

Plan for about 18 to 24 months in total, including DGCA ground school and at least 200 hours of flying. The exact time depends on how quickly you clear the papers, the weather at your flying school and the training slots available. Ask any school for last year's real average, not the best case.

What are the eligibility criteria for the CPL programme?

You need Class 12 with Physics, Mathematics and English, a minimum age of 17 to start training and a valid DGCA Class 2 medical. The licence itself is issued at 18, and a Class 1 medical is needed before the CPL. PPL holders and students with cleared papers can join at their stage.

Do I need a Private Pilot License before the CPL?

No. If you are starting from Class 12, you begin with DGCA ground training and then move to flying. A PPL is useful if you want an early taste of flying, and PPL holders can move into commercial hours, but it is not a required step on the CPL path.

What ratings are included in the CPL training?

Flying training covers the 200-plus hours needed for the licence, with a multi-engine endorsement and an Instrument Rating for commercial environments. Theory covers commercial theory, navigation and instruments. Check with the admissions team exactly which ratings sit inside your quoted fee before you pay.

Where will I do my flying training?

Flying is completed at partner schools in India, South Africa, the USA and New Zealand, with Aerowis coordinating your plan. The partner schools are not named on the website. Ask the admissions team which school suits your budget, then request that school's written fee breakup and average time to 200 hours.

Does Aerowis guarantee an airline job after the CPL?

No. A CPL is not a job offer, and no academy can promise an airline seat. Aerowis runs airline preparation when vacancies open, including ADAPT, psychometric tests, group discussion and interview practice, to help you compete for the places that do come up.

Is the type rating part of the CPL course?

No. A320 and B737 type ratings are separate courses delivered through training partners, usually after the CPL and sometimes after an airline offer. Budget for the type rating separately, and read the Type Rating page before you decide when to take it.

How do I get the CPL fees and batch dates?

Fees are quoted on enquiry so figures stay current. Call or WhatsApp +91 8594 000 730 (Monday to Saturday, 9:30 am to 5:30 pm) or email info@aerowis.com. Ask for a written breakup covering ground school, flying hours, exams, medicals and the type rating.

How many flying hours do I need for the CPL?

DGCA requires at least 200 hours of flying for a Commercial Pilot License. That includes a mix of solo, cross-country and instrument time, as set by the regulator. Airlines often prefer more experience, so ask what hours your school expects students to log in practice.

Does the CPL course include ground school?

Yes. The CPL pathway starts with DGCA ground school in Calicut, about six months of theory, and continues with flying at partner schools. You need to pass the DGCA theory papers before the licence is issued. Ask for a written plan showing which stage you are on.
